Futuristic Technology

The Veldt

The Veldt is a futuristic story about two children who live in a "smart house" with their parents. When the parents decide they want to turn off the house and do things on their own the children refuse. The kids were so angry that, later on, they kill their parents.

Kids killing their parents is usually something that does not happen often, but in Cement, Oklahoma, Billie Joe Powell, a sixteen year old girl, killed her father. She said he abused her, but honestly there has to be more behind it. She could have easily reported him,but she went as far as killing him. This is the same with the children in The Veldt because killing their parents should not have been the solution to their problems.

As far as the technology in the book, there are actually "smart houses" now. These houses have a command system that tells the house what to do. For example, when the alarm goes of in the house it turns on the lights this either scares the burglar away, or lets the resident know the alarm has been set off.
The thing is are these houses actually reliable?

I totally agree with you, killing your parents shouldn't be the solution to your problems. They should have gone to a therapist or a physciatrist to solve their problems. Violence isn't the answer!
